Home Remedies for Toothaches




At the onset of a toothache, your first action should be to call your dentist. Don't wait for it to subside, as it more than likely won't. And while you are waiting for your appointment, there are steps you can do to help relieve your pain. After all, your appointment may not be for several hours, or in some cases a few days, and you want relief now, not later.

Home remedies are often over-looked or scoffed at, But they do work. Try these home remedies to help alleviate your tooth ache pain.

Run your hands under extremely cold tap water, or hold an ice cube in the palm of your hand. The sensation of the cold will ease the pain anywhere from several minutes to an hour.

Slice a piece of lime and rub the flesh of the fruit on the aching tooth. The rich source of Vitamin C is effective in
relieving pain.

Mix into a cup, 1/4 cup white distilled vinegar with 1 tablespoon salt. Soak a cotton swab in the mixture, then swab over the affected tooth and gum area surrounding the tooth. Just don't swallow!

Many people report that by putting 2 or 3 drops of pure vanilla extract directly on the aching tooth helps to subside the pain. Readily available in most kitchens, it's certainly worth a try.

Dip a tea bag into a cup of boiling water. After a few seconds, rem
ove the tea bag, squeeze out excess liquid and let it sit on your tooth for quick relief.

Applying oregano oil directly on the tooth is another home remedy that has worked wonders for many people.

Ground cloves set onto the tooth works quickly as a pain eraser and will ease tooth pain for at least a couple of hours.

Onion is a natural killer of bacteria; bacteria is sometimes the cause of toohaches. Try placing a piece of onion onto the affected tooth.

Here's one you might want to try for the young child with a toothache, as silly as it sounds. I knew of a woman who told her young granddaughter that she had magic healing hands. As long as she kept her hand placed over the little girl's jaw, that little girl felt no pain. So a loving touch from a family member is the most natural of home remedies!

If you are self-medicating with aspirin, please consult a doctor before using any oral home remedies. Although these remedies contain every-day natural products and are safe on their own, there is that possibility of a reaction if taken with medication; Better safe than sorry! Many herbs, for instance, have medicinal properties, which is why they work. Check with a doctor.

Important to note -- avoid cold drinks and cold foods until you are seen by the dentist. The reason for this is that you may have an infection and the cold will only make the infection worse.
