Krav Maga: What Is It All About?

Krav Maga was founded by Imi Lichtenfield in the 1930's. Because of the hard times being experienced in Israel he was forced to help himself, family and friends. With all of the fighting and war going on in Israel he used his new found self defense techniques to stop any and all would be attackers. Imi was a natural born athlete from the beginning, excelling in both wrestling and boxing. His main purpose for Krav Maga was to help people learn how to defend themselves in the most efficient way possible. He wanted to bring people together as one in order to ultimately hinder conflict, time wasting war, and turmoil. After several decades of teaching in Israel he finally ended up passing his black belt over to Darren Levine, a martial arts expert and good friend of Imi. Darren carried on Imi's legacy after his passing in 1998 and continues to teach young adults all over the world in the Krav Maga headquarters located in California. If you have ever read anything else I have posted you should know that I really love me some martial arts and self defense techniques. I studied Hapkiyudo and took Karate a long time ago when I was a kid. This one however was new to me. Krav Maga was very similar to Hapkiyudo in the regards to each arts grappling and hand to hand combat skills. Krav Maga on the other
hand has several different techniques I found amazing. When someone asks me what type of skill or self defense weapon they should acquire I always advise them to purchase a pepper spray or stun gun. The reason for this is because I know most people don't have the time nor desire to practice a martial art. I have told people about it over and over again and they did nothing with it. By offering a simple self defense weapon all is good and they have a chance of defending themselves. Krav Maga on the other hand is an excellent martial art with loads of benefits. I love this art because it teaches real life situations to people and how to defend those situations. They have everything from disarming a gunman to proper fleeing techniques. These skills are more applicable to the everyday Joe since they constitute situations that might actually happen. Don't get me wrong I know for a fact that all martial arts have SOME benefit for you but some just seem a little more practical than others, Krav Maga is one of them. So looking back you never know when I myself might take up Krav Maga. If you are looking for a martial art to practice then Krav Maga or Hapkido are my recommendations. Make sure when choosing a martial art you stick with it. If you don't it will just be a waste of money and time. Research what you want, make a choice, stick with that choice, and follow through. You will thank yourself for it.
