Technology Has Made Us F-A-T

In today's technology advancement, human are no longer living the old ways. What about the old ways? The old ways were how our parents, grandparents, or even great grandparents had to endure a full load of energy and sweats to get to places, to complete certain tasks or hard chores yet we all find a piece of cake. Mind you, back then it was like baby-boomer, when the technologies were still thriving its way up to date. While technology has contributed to a great deal of progress, it has also had many negative effects.

The name is obvious, isn't it? Technology has made us F-A-T. One obvious example of technology is transportation. In the past, people walked and cycled more because not many people owned cars. Buying a car was a big ticket back in the day (even now!). The old-timers traveled longdistances by foot like a norm and never whine a word about it because that was the way they lived. They were using energy. Today, we see our roads are crowded with vehicles and more vehicles to come and in many regions the car remain the main ride because of poor public transport, or because of the ease and convenience of cars. This has resulted in people driving even short distances to get to their destinations. Therefore, they exercise much less and consequently put on weight easily. Not only that, we might also once in a while heard grumbles of spoiled brats walking that short-distance is tireless effort. Sounds like walking into torture chamber to me!

At home, women previously washed their clothes and their dishes manually, regardless a full basket. They walked their children to school, to the playgrounds and walked to the markets and shops for their supplies. For some, even if they took public transport, there was some walking from the bus stops to their destinations and back. This gave them some form of exercise. But today, almost all homes have washing machines and many have dishwashers. Women nowadays who have busy careers and lifestyles, also tend to buy a lot of ready-to-eat-meals which only take a few minutes to heat in the microwave ovens. They do not spend too much time and energy on cooking laborious meals. Even the vacuumcleaner has taken over conventio
nal sweeping method. No fuss and time-saved! The possible development of housekeeping robots and other new technologies has made housework less strenuous.

Compare to a few decades ago, computer was only a mere plain computer with the Net service provider. It was a standard issue. People have known about it, they don't even bother. Of late, with the popularity and the hype over social networking websites such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and so on, people are curious, even some sites already been put up for ages, they are still get the craze. These overwhelming social networking sites are growing hand in hand with the evolutionary of the computer attracting more people to purchase one. Since then, we all have became a computer freaks. We all started ploughing land on the Internet, making visual dollars. Even when the computer is keeping up-to-date, the tube has never lots its sight, it is still there. And it keeps getting thin and flat, high and wide. It even works like theInternet. Seems like no matter how environment has changed, television set is still at number one spot, children and adults everyday lifestyles. So our asses rooted for hours in front of the screens unlike the people of 20 years ago who would be spending time playing and relaxing outdoors. No doubt how the couch potatoes came from.

In the meantime, what is worst is along with these everyday lifestyle, we consume a lot more of fast food we have ever had, and eat richer and more fatty food than our parents and grandparents. This new diet is not particularly healthy and this, combine with our sedentary lifestyles, has made us obese. Besides, in almost all buildings in today's cities, there are lifts and escalators. Where once we used to climb stairs, now we are lifted and being taken to wherever we want to go. Right, taller buildings it seems, there is definitely no time and non-existent possibility to nudge your muscle way up to the floor. Thus, this affluence and busy lifestyles have in the means to save up more of our energy and has left very little time for a real exercise.

Well, no matter how the technology has changed our lives, its advantages are definitely outweigh the negatives. Who, in this time and age, dare to challenge its progression and go back to the Stone Age? It is time to take a deep breath and flex your muscle, wouldn't you agree?

You say it is technology has changed us but in a way we change our self's it work with technology so we could walk the easy way in life. Yes the better things get the easier they are, but the more we pay for it in the long run....Jobs lost...Time with family lost because of cell phones computers..and so on. So yes we could be better as a hole to go back in time to get things we have lost back and to make the world better.
