We always wondered why it was happening to us and why we could not have that blemish free, flawless complexion when it was most needed. The treatment of Acne lies in understanding its root cause and making remedial changes.
Acne is not just a superficial infection and its roots lie deep in the sebaceous glands which are present in our skin and are responsible for keeping our skin soft and supple. The hormonal changes with in the body result in clogging of skin pores giving rise to painful pus filled cysts or nodules known as pimples. They may occur on any part of the upper body and is not age specific.
Causes
Contrary to common belief, the outbreak of pimples is not related to a person's eating habits. Some food ingredients may increase the secretion of sebum from the body thereby aggravating the already present skin disorder.
A ruptured hair follicle under the surface of the skin results in the formation of a plug which gets clogged with oil and cell debris present in the skin. The bacteria known as Propionibacterium acnes acts on this debris to produce substances causing redness and irritation resulting in the outbreak of the infection.
Certain hormones like Androgens and Estrogens are also responsible for the augment of this disorder. These hormones enlarge the sebaceous glands and increase sebum production. Hence any change in the level of these hormones results in aggravating the disorder.
