Vaginal Yeast Infections and How To Treat It Naturally

Yeast infections of the vagina are characterized by itching, irritation, and whitish discharge. Not all vaginal infections are caused by yeast, in fact, the most common form of vaginal infection, bacterial vaginosis, is caused by bacteria, not yeast. If you have any doubt, be sure to see a health care professional for accurate diagnosis.

Some of the common causes of candidiasis are like use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, OC-pills, intake of steroids for long time, diabetic patients, or hormonal changes(such as those occurring before a menstrual bleed).

Inside of our intestines, we have naturally harboring bacteria which may be "friendly bacteria" or "unfriendly bacteria". The category of friendly bacteria is necessary for the proper nourishment and digestion of foods that we take, and it also checks the growth of unfriendly bacteria within our guts. Unfortunately, when we take antibiotics, they kill off all bacteria and do not differentiate between the good or bad bacteria. Taking antibiotics depletes an individual's stores of good, friendly bacteria and therefore, allows the overgrowth of bad, unfriendly bacteria and yeast to proliferate.

Very often paramedics suggest modifications in dietary habits than prescribing antifungal drugs.Dietary modifications include restriction of foods such as dairy products(with the exception of yogurt), sugars, yeast rich items such as beer, bread, wine, and fermented foods like vinegar, soya sauce, pickled foods, etc. It is suggested that individuals suffering from yeast infections eat raw or lightly cooked garlic, which has antibacterial and antifungal properties. Often times, raw vegetables are highly recommended, however,
it is next to impossible to remove all molds from any vegetables that are grown in soil. Mushrooms, which are a fungus, should be avoided at all costs. Basically the safe foods which may be eaten by a person suffering from yeast infection will be tuna packed in water, eggs, corn tortillas, plain rice cakes, and fresh filtered water.

As far as supplements are concerned, some in use are probiotics, vitamin A, C, E and zinc, grapefruit seed extract (not to be taken at the same time as other supplements or food), goldenseal, myrrh, and slippery elm. Some of the homeopathic remedies used for vaginal yeast infections consist of Kreosotum, Caladium, Mercurius, Apis, and Berberis aquifolium. For the right homeopathic medication , you must visit a registered practitioner and get a proper prescription from him.

In order to decrease the discomfort level from yeast infection, you may take the following steps.
1. Wear loose fitting, natural-fiber clothing. Remove damp and sweaty clothes as early as possible.
2. Do not use panty hose. If you must wear panty hose, cut out the crotch.
3. Do not use too much soap while washing your clothes, otherwise use natural detergents. Too much of soap residue in undergarments can cause irritation of the vaginal area.
4. Wash with a non-perfume or non-irritating soap and avoid washcloths, as they harbor fungi. You should also avoid bubble baths.
5. Do not use scented toilet tissue paper.
6. Use sanitary napkins rather than tampons during menstruation.

If you follow the above suggestions, yeast infections can be controlled naturally. It is realistic to avoid yeast infections forever, as long as you are willing to perform some lifestyle changes and address yeast infections as a whole body issue, and not just address the symptomology.
