What’s The Best Type Of Aerobic Exercise?

There are different types of aerobic exercises that individuals can engage in to achieve optimum health. Walking, cycling, running, jogging, aerobics and swimming are among the popular types of aerobic exercise.

Aerobic exercise is a physical activity characterized by a moderate intensity training normally undertaken for a long duration. Aerobic exercises use oxygen for fueling the intensity of the physical training to generate energy. Aerobic means presence of oxygen.

There are certain health and performance benefits individuals can gain from doing aerobic exercises. Aerobic exercises greatly stimulate the muscles which are involved in breathing such as the lungs and heart. In turn, these muscles are strengthened. There can be an improvement in the pumping efficiency of the blood throughout the system and a reduction of heart rate at rest. The flow of air and out is facilitated more fully in the lungs. There can also be an increase in the amount of red blood cells in the body. Consequently, individuals who perform aerobic exercises regularly may have the least likelihood to die from cardiovascular problems.

Moreover, toned muscles can be achieved from having regular aerobic exercises. Calories are burnt during aerobic activities which are also good for the elimination of toxins and burning of unwanted fats in the body. Some high-impact aerobic exercises can stimulate the growth of bones and may even reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

Aerobic activities can also lead to improvement in the ability of the muscles to utilize fats for energy during exercise. Although the energy generation during aerobic exercise is primarily fueled by oxygen, fats can also be consumed and converted to energy by the muscles. This allows the preservation of glycogen in the muscles. The depletion of glycogen storage in the muscles can result to extreme fatigue.

When aerobic exercises are regularly performed, there is a tendency that the body can respond at a faster rate to recover the muscles spent in doing high intensity e
xercises. Increased endurance is also one of the performance benefits.

Aerobic exercises can be added to a work-out session prior to or after intense weight training. It is always important to add aerobic exercises in a work-out program when the aim is bodybuilding. It is also possible to engage in aerobic activities in one day then weight training at the next day on a regular interval. If the desire is body toning, aerobic exercises are more given focus while strength training is done at a consistent yet less intense level.

Walking, jogging and running are perhaps the most popular types of aerobic exercises. They can be performed without any equipment other than walking or running shoes and appropriate clothing.

Meanwhile, cycling either on stationary or running wheels is one of the exciting aerobic activities. Mountain biking is one of the adventurous activities that can benefit the heart.

Individuals can also make use of gym equipment to improve their breathing prowess. Treadmills, elliptical and rowing machines permit individuals to burn fats and toxins indoors. These machines can help individuals maintain their active lifestyle during harsh weather conditions.

What's the best type of aerobic exercise?

The best type does not lie on the type of aerobic exercise but on the person who wants to commit to the exercise and desires to attain the benefits. Different people may have different preferences. Other people do not want to attempt to jog because of joint problems but would opt for brisk walking. When it comes to costs, others prefer to run and jog than trudging on the treadmill or swaying on the elliptical machine.

Meanwhile, other people would just decide to walk and run for it is much easier or more convenient to engage in than swimming. Others who are into extreme adventure have fun in mountain biking or cycling on slopes.

The concern for picking an aerobic exercise is not just the preference or the impact. It is also about safety. Safety is an important consideration in doing different physical activities. One cannot enjoy much of the health benefits if the amount of risk is greater in one type of aerobic exercise.

Great article though I disagree on certain aspects. I don't believe in traditional cardio especially cardio machines but rather in interval training. what is your take on Interval training?
